Business boomed for 14 little entrepreneurs of the Young Entrepreneurs Foundation (YEF) this past Saturday as most of their self-made products sold out like hot cakes.
The minipreneurs took the Langenhoven Market by storm with their self-made products that turned out to be a crowd favourite.
Their products included notebooks, bracelets, keyrings, wooden brooches, fridge magnets, earrings and rings.
The learners from the Nozala Intermediate School in Phahameng formed part of YEF, which has since 2015 been teaching children, teenagers and young adults vital entrepreneurial and self-employment skills as well as financial literacy.
According to Wesna Steenkamp, operations and marketing manager of the organisation, all profits made by the learners will be theirs to keep.
“The community was very supportive and most of the kids sold all their products while others only had four or five products left. The community made sure that the experience was great. They received a surprise packet from Central Media Park and we ended the day with a fun session at the jumping castles,” said Steenkamp.
Danie Jacobs, founder and executive director of YEF, said they hope to make a difference by enabling more of the youth in Bloemfontein, opening up their eyes and minds to the possibilities of entrepreneurship and owning their own businesses to help build a sustainable country and economy.
He added that they wish to get more corporates involved. “Your organisation can play a major role in changing the lives of so many children from previously disadvantaged backgrounds. We are looking forward to your partnership and assistance in our efforts to provide children with the necessary skills to go out in life and become valuable contributors to the economy and society at large. Together we can inspire dreams and empower kids to become the authors of their own destiny,” Jacobs concluded.
